American Impressionism.

Girl combing her hair a piece by William McGregor Paxton American painter

born 1869- died 1941 painted in 1909.

In this piece by William mcgregor Paxton ,we see American impressionism .American Impressionism was a style of painting related to European Impressionism and practised by American artists in the United States during the late 19th and early 20th centuries. American Impressionism is a style of painting characterised by loose brushwork and vivid colours.

As you can see in the image above ,it is a very lovely painting and it has great detail .The lighting is very good in this painting , the colour are very neutral but still hit some  high points  .There is a sense of movement in the painting but still is very still. This painting falls under the theme movement because as she is combing her hair and as the lights are hitting her face .There is movement in the fabric of the clothing ,and as her hair is falling onto her shoulders .

More examples of American impressionism are pieces like:

A piece by kevin Beilfuss.
As you can see there is great use of colour and beautiful details int the face ,which can be confusing as in some areas it looks clean and in others it looks very rough. This painting is very eye catching and too me it is very amusing

This is an other piece by Kevin Beilfuss, again there is great use of vibrant colour and although there are rough brush strokes the image is still shown very clearly .This painting is a more modern take on American impressionism.
